Description:-

Amateur Radio Direction Finding (ARDF) is the sport of finding a very low power hidden radio transmitters on foot, using radio receiver, antenna, map, and compass in diverse. ARDF joins orienteering skills like the proper use of topographic maps, compass skills, and locational awareness, with radio direction finding skills using hand-held portable receivers and antennas. It is great fun for young and old alike - an opportunity for personal challenge in the great outdoors!

A lot of prizes to be won such as a RADIO TRANSCEIVER and many more radio equipment is waiting for you. DON'T MISS IT!

Assalamualaikum dan salam sejahtera.

Komuniti wilayah V17 dengan bangga menjemput semua warga radio amatur dan peminat radio komunikasi di Malaysia menyertai pertandingan Amateur Radio Directional Fox Hunting (ARDF).

Acara ini julung kali diadakakan terbuka buat semua komuniti radio amatur samada Marts, Astra, Mares, Parts, Pradas, SCS, Jasra, AKRB, Paras, Komuniti Radio Amatur dari Sabah, Sarawak, Kelantan, Johor, Melaka mahupun komuniti-komuniti kecil seperti V33, V38, V20, Vee99 dan komuniti bukan radio amatur tetapi berminat dengan teknik membangunkan perkakasan radio mencari isyarat disamping beriadah dalam hobi ini.

Tujuan acara ini diadakan adalah bertujuan untuk mewujudkan semangat berkerjasama, bersukan dan bersaing yang sihat dikalangan peminat radio amatur atau peminat hobi elektronik melalui cara pembangunan(homebrew) peralatan, kecergasan dan kecekapan minda. Dan yang penting para peserta dapat menguji keberkesanan hasil homebrew masing-masing. Radio amatur bukan sahaja sebagai satu wadah komunikasi buta semata-mata tetapi satu ruang mengaplikasikan apa yang kita cenderung kepada satu kemuncak pengujian tahap kejayaan kita bereksperimen.

Antara pertandingan yang akan dipertandingkan ialah (rujuk laman webrasmi wilayah V17 utk sebarang perubahan) :

1)Antena ARDF terbaik(Setiap antena yang dibangunkan oleh peserta akan disaring mengikut kriteria teknikal seperti SWR, galangan, kekemasan etc)

2)Pertandingan Fox Hunt Individu(Hadiah utama ialah sebuah Transceiver popular)

3)Pertandingan Fox Hunt Berkumpulan(Hadiah misteri tetapi sangat dicari)

4)Pertandingan Slalom Fox Hunt
(Pertama kali dibawa ke Malaysia mungkin dimana terdapat beberapa antena yang memancar dimana peserta yang duduk harus mencuba mendapatkan susunan antena yang memancar di hadapannya. Mudah!)

Dan Acara Flea Market di tapak acara.

Demi memastikan peluang tuan-tuan menang dalam pertandingan ini,jaguh-jaguh V17 seperti Raymond dan Fadhil serta sekutu V17 tidak dibenarkan bertanding tetapi bertindak sebagai panitia sahaja.

Bagi yang ingin memiliki transceiver radio amatur - Model popular(antara hadiah utama) boleh lah mencuba nasib. Hadiah-hadiah lumayan menanti anda ;)

OBJECTIVES

To create awareness on Ham Radio amongst the general public (school students, interested government agencies, academicians, etc.), through explanation on technology used, ethics and licensing matters via seminar, exhibition and demonstration;
To create an avenue for the current and prospective Class A/B license holder to participate in the Fox Hunting competition, testing skills and knowledge on ham radio technology;
To inform on importance of Ham Radio as the main tool for disaster communication channel and assistance through demonstration; and
To create an avenue for Ham Radio enthusiast to share ability in building own antenna and receiver, to which only homebrew equipments will qualify for the competition.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

CATEGORIES

Fox Hunting participations will be open for three (03) categories as follows:

1) Individual Open (Male or Female)
2) Team Open of 2 members (All Male or Combination of M & F or All Female)
3) School Students - Team of 2 members (All Male or Combination of M & F or All Female) – under 18 years old.

QUALIFICATION

1. Open to All Radio/ HAM Operators and SWL (Malaysian Citizen).

2. Type of this competition will be done in Pedestrian mode (on foot). Only ONE transceiver/ receiver and antenna is allowed for all categories.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

GENERAL

1. Individual and Team Open Category - Five low power (<1 align="left">2. School Students Category - Three low power (<1>

3. The hidden transmitter signal may be copy able at the starting point. The start point and start time are determined by the organizer. Maximum contest time allowed is 3 hours.

4. Participants will be supplied with Scoring Card and required to mark their cards with the marking device found attached to the flags, and return it to the marshals at the “Finish” position.

5. Participants are not allowed to transmit during the hunting period or cause damage to the Fox equipments.

6. Individual and Team Open Category
- the foxes will transmit on 144.500 MHz, mode F2A.

School Student Team Category
- the foxes will transmit on 144.800 MHz, mode F2A.

2 Meter Band
F2A :-
i. F - Frequency Modulation,
ii. 2 – A single channel containing quantized or digital information with the use of a modulating sub-carrier.
iii. A – Telegraphy – for aural reception

7. Participants are permitted to use ready-made commercial receivers and antennas. Handicap in terms of time, will be given for those who use equipment/ accessories, receivers and antenna of own design/ constructed.

8. All hunting equipments used in this competition will be impounded before the start of the hunt and will only be returned to the respective Participants when they are about to be flag-off.

9. Participants are not allowed to activate their hunting equipment until they have moved off past a specified location.

10. Participants are allowed to hunt the foxes in any order of their preferences.

11. The winner of the hunt is determined by who finds all transmitters at the shortest time. There will be three winning positions for each category.

12. The hunt boundaries are determined by the organizer.

13. Rule Modifications: Any rule modifications will be announce before the hunt starts if such a modification is deemed necessary by the organizer.

14. Fees & Charges

Fox Hunt - RM40.00 per individual and RM80.00 per team will be charged for participations.

RM50 per team will be charged for school students under 18 years old.

15. RDF a.k.a Fox Hunting Championships shall take place on VHF. The band is announced in advance of the hunt through official Website.

16. It is absolutely forbidden to give or take any assistance from or to any person, including participants, and also to utilize any means or method other than permitted. The penalty for both shall be disqualification. However participants are expected to provide emergency assistance or first aid to another participant when needed; no participant will be disqualified for providing such assistance so long as they gain no competitive advantage by doing so.

17. The use of GPS receivers for navigation is not allowed. It is considered receiving assistance.

18. Participants shall not inflict loss or damage on or to the property of any other person or the venue.

19. Participants take part at their own risk.

20. There will be 5 foxes and 3 foxes a.k.a. transmitters in Open Category and School Category respectively. Minimum distance between transmitters is 200m, and the transmitter closest to the starting point should be at least 300m away. Total course length from start to finish, via all transmitters, should be between 4km to 7 km.

21. Participating societies shall bear the travel expenses of their teams to and from the place of the Championships and the costs of accommodation and board during the Championships.

22. In the event of a thunderstorm, the Chairman of the Jury shall be entitled to recall competition immediately

23. The standard MOE/MOI/MOS/MOH/MO5 sequence will be used. A finish line beacon sending MO on a different frequency may be deployed to direct the hunters back.

Transmitter will transmit Morse Code identification at approximate rate of 5 words/minute:-

- MOE, MOI, MOS, MOH, MO5

The Foxes will transmit on a running sequential timing pattern of 1 minute "ON" followed by 4 minutes "OFF", as such that there will always a Fox transmitting at all times. (See chart below)

24. Each transmitter will be marked with a marker or flag within 2 meters radius. Although the standard red and white triangular prism is recommended, any unique, brightly colored marker is acceptable. All prisms must be identical, and a sample must be displayed at the starting point. The prism maybe at least 1 meter above the ground.

25. Transmitters maybe operated within the regulations of the country where the event is taking place. Frequencies shall be chosen in accordance with the local band plan. 26. Antenna patterns will be omni-directional in the horizontal plane. The transmitting antennas will be installed in a "Horizontal Polarized" position, at a height not exceeding 1.5m from the ground.

COMPETITION RULES

1. Each participant shall provide her or his own equipment. Every participant shall have a directional finder receiver for the relevant band and shall meet the technical specification for RDF.

2. Participants will be given a scoring card and punch card. The scoring card must be marked at each transmitter found, and returned at the finish line. The punch card is needed to record participants start and finish time. Transmitters may be found in any sequence.

3. The organizer will establish procedures for starting order, starting corridors, waiting areas, control of equipment, etc., as appropriate. The rules from other IARU regions serve as a model. The rules must be easy to understand and follow for all participants.

4. Timeout: The maximum time allowed on the course shall be 3 hours. Any participant exceeding this time shall be disqualified. The organizer may also, at their discretion, modify the timeout period the day of the event to take into account for any unexpected situations such as weather. The timeout period may not be modified once the event has started. To create a fairness competition, Participants are not allowed to use any communications device such as hand phone, extra handy talkie etc. other than the device which to be used for the hunts within the competition time. Such equipments to prevent this matter may be deployed. The penalty for this shall be disqualification.

5. The choice of clothing and footwear shall be free. Short pants are not allowed.

6. The Organizer will not be responsible towards any claims of damage or accidents. Participants will bear all risks and damages to themselves and their property.

7. Participants shall not take drugs which could alter their performance at any time during the competition and during the 24 hours prior to the commencement of competition.

8. Each competitor shall also have available a personal identification document showing his or her date of birth.

NOTE:

Organizer have the full rights to amend or make any changes to any of Rules & Regulations if such amendment or changes is deemed necessary without giving any notice and such amendment or changes will be announce on the event day.

Due to overwhelming response from participants and suggestion from sponsors to make this event more special and grand.
Organizers has agreed and decided to extend the date to ' 5th APRIL 2009 ' .

Objectives

To create an awareness of Radio Directional Finder.

Participation

Individual (above 18 years old)
Malaysian Citizenship

Competition regulation

A distance between competitors and target antennas + 10 meter.
A distance among competitors + 1 meter.
A distance among target antennas + 1.5 meter.
Competitors need to aim which antennas is transmiting Tone (Beacon).
Each competitors will be given a scoring card to mark the chosen target.
Competitors need to choose only one antenna from four antennas.
Competitors will be disqualified if more than one answers found by the judges.

Winners evaluation

Judges will choose only three competitors to win the prizes.(1,2 & 3)
Competitors will have a chance to aim the target antenna up to three times in durations of 30 second each and also need to collect three point of answers correctly.
In first level, if there are competitors gets 3 points more than 3 other competitors, the other competitors which only gets 1 or 2 points will be eliminated.
The competitor which carries 3 points will proceed to the next level until finally gets the winners.
